Clutch damper leak
Hi,
I have developed a leak from the clutch damper after putting a new kit in the slave cylinder of the Tdi 300 Disco.
I removed the damper and the pipe from the master cylinder and can't find any cracks or other issues, the threads are good not worn and do up tightly out of the car. When I place the damper back together it seems that the threads can't do up tight enough with the metal mounting bracket between the pipe and the damper.
I've put a large amount of torque on the threads to the point where I think they will break and there is still a slight leak.
My question if I replace the damper it could be the pipe union leaking and vice versa. Is there a sealant other than thread tape that could be used to seal the leak? Can I just run the pipe direct from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder bypassing the clutch damper?
Thanks
Pete

Like the vibration damper on the axle, the only reason that device is present is to remove a pulse from the clutch pedal. It appears that you've cross threaded something, so give direct connection a try. Either you will be able to accept the new 'feel' of the clutch pedal, or it will be a problem. As to sealing it up - better off replacing it with some decent 2nd hand bits

Thanks Langy for you response.
I replaced the clutch damper with one from island4x4 on e bay. $44 delivered in 4 days from the UK after money cleared. Was quoted $120 in Qld. There appears to be a larger seat in the bottom of the new one for the pipe olive to rest against. Anyway it works and there is no need for daily refilling of the clutch fluid.
Thanks for advice.
