    Steering damper relocation

Anyone moved their damper to the front of the axle? Looking for a couple of photos to see where the damper mount goes on the chassis as I am modifying mine.

    Can I ask why?

The damper was on the drag link in the series vehicles and was moved to the current location for the coil spring models. The benefit of the damper being on the track rod is that the shock loads are damped equally from both driver and passenger sides. When the damper is on the drag link the shock loads from the drivers side is referred un-damped through the tie-rod ends and steering levers to the drag link.

In the disco/defender vehicles a chassis mount for a drag link damper would need to be above the drag link below the LHS chassis rail. The problem will be keeping upward articulation on the LHS front wheel while keeping clearance from the radiator and panhard rod.

Why would you want to go the trouble of setting up an inferior design on the damper.

    (My opinion)

The Disco 1 damper is rear of the axle, and is vulnerable to damage from rocks etc. It is a common upgrade to relocate the damper out of harms way.

The ones at the front also get damaged but by different obstacles.

    By your reply, obviously

Later rover have a steering gaurd and the odd of damaging a front damper are far less, I've ruined heaps of rear mount dampers, never a front one

Andy, there is a bit of a "how to" on the discoweb website for the steering dampener relocation, and this is a good cheap option until you can get a defender type setup.

    cheers
