    Complete Dash Removal Advice

Hi, my 1994 Disco has a leaking heater core, i'm contemplating the (hopefully not) complicating mission of removing my dash, so i can get to the heater core to either replace or repair it.

    a) can anyone offer any advice to how easy/hard it is (dont just say its easy or hard, please explain)

    b) if anyone has detailed information to how this is done (ie pdf format) can they please post it on this thread

i've found heaps of pdf files to repairs etc of the land rovers and range rovers, however nothing really in regards to the full dismatling or removal of the dash etc.

    cheers guys

    Hi Eddie,

The removal for someone new contemplating this is not hard but more time consuming.

Lots of screws, lots of bolts but just some sort of order is needed for it to be done correctly.

Best bet is grab a Rave from this site-fund the site as it helps everybody-this will help heaps.

Most likely under heater-heater core removal & refit.

    Cheers

Ok Eddie, I'll try & give you some rough pointers...........

Remove center console - remove gear lever/gaiters, remove electric window switch panal, remove clevis pin from handbrake lever, remove 4 screws & lift out console disconect cigar lighter connectors.

Remove steering wheel, column cowling & indicator/wiper switches.

Remove instrument binacle - remove 2 small screws at bottom, release front surround/disconnect switches, remove 4 8mm nuts from underneath lift out gauges & disconnect connectors.

Remove under dash trims x2 & kick panal trims x2.

In each footwell there are 2 brackets underneath the dash - completely remove these & on the passenger side there is a relay brcket with a 13mm nut, remove & drop down.

Remove the glovebox & the panal below the steering wheel ( 7mm bolts )

Behind the glovebox are 2 10mm bolts - remove.

Disconnect the heater control cables, 1 on passenger & 2 on drivers side.

    Remove & disconnect radio.

lastly on the sides of the heater box are 4 connectors which connect the dash harness to the main harness.

Then with assistance lift dash towards you & withdraw from the car

I think you'll find it easy , I can remove a Disco 1 dash in 30mins no problem.

    good luck

    Eddie,

RAVE are the CD ROM discs with the Land Rover workshop manuals (amongst other things) on them. If you go to the top of the site home page and check under "Markets" and then click on "CD ROM Manuals" you will find them.

Well worth having the one for your vehicle, even if not for this immediate job.
You will need the Rave CD I for your model Disco. I've got the Rave CD II for the Disco 2 - I just checked that and there are very detailed instructions there, including diagrams, for removal of the dash components and heater components.
    Cheers .........

Hi Eddie, 94 is a tough year, do you have the updated dash or the old one??
With the update it is possible to get the heater core out without removing the whole dash, fiddly, but easier. The older dash style is a complete removal
It has been covered in another thread, search is your friend

You would expect they are the same, but it is a Land Rover, so who knows
I used this method to remove the core from the wreck at Pick and Pay less Blacktown, easy as, i/2 hour to remove. But, my pipes need replacing too so I'm waiting until it gets colder to justify doing the whole dash removal saga, also have to de-gas the A/C
