    Is it really worth it?
Why not buy a 3.9V8 and stick in it?

Far less trouble and it will bolt straight in.
That old Discovery must be in excellent condition if you want to waste large sums of money on it

well, i bumped a bloke the other day, he had an old range rover with a a new chevy in it, all up, $10k. so i figured, well why not as i cant buy anything worthwhile for that amount and my disco is in great shape, only done 160 000k's.
why chevy? a lot less expensive than a disco motor.

Remember though that an old rangie has a lot less electrics to worry about and less adrs to comply with, at 160k the 3.5 is only just run in.

dont get me wrong, my disco is in good nik, motor starts with firs flick, runs well, just thought i'd have some fun with a conversion, turns out the chevy motor is cast iron and therefor too heavy for the disco, making it problematic.

You could do a hell of a lot to a Rover V8 for less than ten grand, and blow away the bloke with the "Chevy".

Weight is an important factor to the handling of any vehicle, so don't listen to any idiot that says a heavy chev V8 is the way to go.

Suggest you start a new thread asking for advice on hotting up a Rover V8. The "Bowler Wildcat" is a rover V8 block, drilled and stroked to 5 litres with TVR (I think) heads. It is one very powerful machine

Agree, the Chev would have been a carburetted job, whereas the Rover V8 engine management can be modified together with all the other improvements to gain power.

I wrote a big spiel but who cares, Like I said, have any of you useless baggers done an engine conversion in your life??

Ever built a big cube rover motor?? ever compared costs and results?? ever compared seat of your pants, in regards to handling AND power to both??

I love how people gain an internet education or even a textbook education, they all critiscise and "know" all the details, but very few have real life experience

Someone quote this for me please, Ron has me on an ignore list like a poor little school girl
