A mate and I did replaced the head gaskets on my 91 D1 around 30k ago. It died on the side of the road. I knew it was on it's way out, just waiting a while before we could get it done. It was quite clear when we pulled it apart that it water was leaking into the exhaust manifold. While we were at it I had the radiator re-cored, new plugs and leads, oil and oil filter.
Tonight on the way home it started running really rough. Won't idle on either petrol or LPG. Sounds like it's lost a cylinder. I checked the water, which had dropped about 10mm in the resovior. I then checked the oil and there was a milky residue around the rim of the filler cap, and pulled the dip stick out and there was tiny air bubbles in the oil. So to me this sounds like I've either blown the head gasket, or I have a cracked head.
Mate that helped me (did it for me in the first place) has gone back to Melbourne, so I have to get some one to fix this for me. Would anybody be able to recommend a mechanic in the Perth area, and also give a rough estimate on what to expect price wise.
Thanks for any help,
Dannie
