    which engine do i have??????

    hi guys
i have recently bought a disco 1 tdi auto. it has developed a severe water leak down over the alternator but only leaks when engine is stopped.i'm assuming its the water pump shaft seal. for the life of me i can't find any markings etc to tell me if its a 200 tdi or a 3oo tdi or even a ferrari v12... the only markings on the whole car are the engine number and the vin any help in recognising it would be great so i can order parts

More information on the car might help?

Do you have a D1 update or the early model?

The updates were made from about Dec 93 and sold new from April 94. They have larger headlights, fully integrated dash, dual heater controls, some may be fitted with ABS and either single or dual airbags. These all have tailights and rear indicators in the bumper.

Earlier models do not have lights in the rear bumpers, do not have glove boxes, smaller headlights, a less integrated dash with a squarish intrument binnecle.

So if it is a Update it is a 300TDI.

    If it is a Pre-Update it has a 200TDI

look at the fan belts. If it has v belts its a 200tdi. If it has a serpentine belt (flat) its a 300tdi.

BTW, if you are replacing the water pump on a 300tdi (not expensive), ensure that you also obtain & replace the "P" gasket behind the pump (again - nnot expensive).

Get the 4 new bolts for the "P" gasket housing as well.
