    V8 Catalytic Converter

just wondering if there were any Disco V8's WITHOUT catalitic converters as an option? im curious because mine doesnt have one...

    its a August 1994 Model 3.9 V8i

im looking at the engine management system at the moment and according to the pdf' files i have downloaded, (it was a 1995 - 1999 service manual i downloaded) they came out with a cat converter

any help will be greatly appreciated

    cheers

No Disco 1's came here with a catalytic convertor. The Disco 2 had them but not the Disco 1.

    hmmm interesting..

the reason why i am asking, i am removing the engine management system and relpacing it with a megasquirt system, the reason why is because in hindsight its much cheaper to get a that than replace sensors etc, (of which i need to do)

anyway.. i'll have to run O2 sensors with the megasquirt, so does anyone know if the series 1 disco came with the loom for the O2 sensors? or would i ahve to run a new wire from the ecu?

No O2 sensors, Not even from the original ECU plug. The ports are blank, never used in this country. Apparently, PhillipA has done this, connecting the O2 sensors etc and he found they are supported in the ECU, just not wired in for OZ.You will have to run a wire I'm afraid. Megasquirt system should give better economy due to better engine monitoring. SHOULD.

hmm so that means that i downloaded the wrong wiring diagram for my car,

has anyone got (PLEASE) a copy of the NON-O2 sensor type wiring diagram for a 3.9 V8i 1994 landrover discovery please, so i can work out how much exisiting wiring i can retain when i install the megasquirt,

hmmm probably a question i should be posting in the electrical section

Eddie, RAVE discs are your friend here, they cover Catalyst and Non catalyst models in the electrical troubleshooting section.

Available from Site administrator Inc's online shop, 'Dave's interesting things'.

Just out of interest, our D1 V8's only utilise a fuel rail temp sensor, a coolant temp sensor, an A/F meter, a throttle position sensor and an engine speed sensor(Ignition pulse from the coil). They are delightfully simple!

No cats required at all on a D1.
