replacing front left window
Hi groovers,
I have a 97 Discovery 3.9 litre.
Well I smashed the front left window when i was whipper snipping yesterday. So went to the wreckers and got another one for $88 which i thought was good.
Got home and have been trying to get it in but for the life of me I cant. Feels like a square peg in a round hole.
Any ideas or tips?
cheers

This is where a copy of RAVE helps - ( markets section ).
I'll presume you have the trim off, and the window winder out. Unclip the outside trim, undo the 4 bolts that hold the window frame to the door, and lift the whole frame and remains of the window out. That should make life easier.

If you got a window out of a pre 96 it wont fit due to different slides on the bottom. You need a 96+ window, or all the motors and mechanisms out of the earlier one.

thx Langy.....your a champ mate.....easy when you know how
didn't need to pull window winder out either
so I thought I would put together a littlte how to then for anyone like me ....

Remove bolts and screw to take the trim off - disconnect speaker wires when doing this.

Here we start to remove the window frame - there are 3 nut type bolts and 2 odd screws to undo. (red dots and arrows)
1 nut type bolt is located under the side mirror interior finish cover (red dot).
2 nut type bolts (picture 3 below) are located in the inside left and right of the bottom of the door.

2 odd screws (picture 4) located on the outside near locking mechanism and on the inside near hinge.

You then need to disconnect the side mirror cable to be able to remove the window frame. The interior finish panel has 2 clips on the bottom. Use a screw driver to pop these up and out. The panel will then swivel to the left.

I removed the side mirror just for ease.

You have to push the connector through the gap here so that you can lift the window frame out.

To do this remove the outside of the plastic clip otherwise it will not fit through (its a tight fit anyway - have to give it a good push)

You can now pull/jiggle the window frame out. You may need 2 people now. Once out slip the replacement window into the frame all the way to the top. Hold frame with window in it and push/jiggle it back into door and bolt window rail back onto winder mechanism (see pics below)

Put bolts and screws back in for window frame. If you removed side mirror, bolt it back on. Pull cable connector back through hole (dont be shy give it a good tug). Reconnect connectors. Clip the interior finish panel back on. Put trim back on and there you go.

hope it helps anyone in the future.......pics are via my website so the links should be good for awhile.
