Hey all
As some may recall, I spent some time chasing down the answer to hot air coming out of my footwell/console vents with the aircon off...thanks to many found the resolution to this - or so I thought.
Have still been getting hot air out of the vents and the plastic of the console is hot, hot, hot around where it flares out at the forward end (around the ciggie lighter).
But...what I discovered tonight is the air out the passenger side and the console that side are ambient temp. What the?
So...is there something amiss on the driver's side? What is under or around the front of the console that could be heating it up that much? Transmission? But why only one side?? I don't think it's a problem with the left/right temp control (?) as the air from the dash vents is ambient. Oh, it is still hot even with the vents set to the dash vents and floor off.
Any ideas? My left shin and foot are on the way to "well done"...
Cheers
Mike

Have you checked the rubber seal at the back of the bonnet.
If it is buggered or missing, the hot air from the engine compartment will flow straight into the fresh air vent.
Turn off the fresh air to see if heat still comes in.
If it doesn't, there is your answer.
If it does, I'll go back under my rock
Cheers,
Ron
There are 2 plastic vents that go from the heater/aircon to the back passenger area, if you look at the bottom of the consol in the back seat area you'll see where the air vents are, these may be loose or not connected at the heater end.
This is them

Thanks Ron, I'll have a look at the seal tonight!
Baz, I'll look at those too - I know the console's been played with when whoever fitted the infra red sender for the DVD's.Although would that explain the heat or just mis-directed air-flow?

My drivers side air is always warmer like most D2's for whatever reason but I find that if the air is really hot, if I turn the A/c on for a minute, or even turn on the climate system, then set it to close the foot vents, then it seems to get rid of the problem. I thought it might be becuase the system is slow to open and close various vents which lets hot air flow around in the car!

See that's the thing...I know Landys are "different" and I love mine dearly and it really doesn't bother me that much that I have to get underneath it with the tyre lever and belt the starter motor because the brushes are knackd (unless it's raining)...but even my 1988 Paj had a hassle free fresh air/aircon system...it's not that hard. Is it?
The 3rd degree burns on my leg should be fine by winter and I'll probably really appreciate it then, lolol!
I'm off to the RAVE cd - I might just block the footwell vents altogether

My Disco II used to heat the plastic of the centre console so much that I couldn't touch it. I scalded my shin on it more than once. On closer inspection I found that the heater core had absolutely nothing in the way of insulation around the ends. My solution was to buy a short length of black foam pipe insulation (the type the plumber uses on hot water pipes), cut it in half & fixed over the ends of the core. All the heat problems were then solved.
I don't have RAVE with me to check and I've never worked on a D2 but.....
Do they use a blend flap servo like the P38A where hot air and cold are are mixed to set the temperature? There is one for each side of the car. These are well known for failing in the P38A. I wouldn't surprised if they were the same servo made by Valeo.

You could very well be right! I know the key fob/remote is by Valeo (if that means anything)...
