I just had a look at the workshop manual. It looks like the D2 with AC uses servo motors to drive the LH and RH blend flaps. They look a little different to the P38A servos but I'd bet they are Valeo.

Your problem sounds like the driver's side blend flap servo has failed or the flap is stuck.

What happens when you select max cooling on the driver's side?

Well, I just looked at Microcat and the images shown for the D2 and P38A heater assemblies are the same - as are the Disco blend flap motors.

However, unlike the P38A, you can buy the three servo motors individually.

omg i thought i was cracking up as this has been happening to me in my d1

seems to get very hot around the same area including the steering coloum shroud......... and around the fuse box area

the first time it happened ian found that the cable which moves the flaps to the vents had come off there for not shutting the hot air off to the vent....then it happened again but the cable was still on this time

not been able to find the cause of my'n its not coming out of the vent in the footwell hot when its set to cold it comes out kinda luke warm but the whole thing still warms up like the tropics...

passenger side no problem cool as cool......i found that sometimes it gets that warm i have to put the aircon on thats the only way to keep the heat down around my leg area
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
