    Question 95 Disco V8i No Start ?

Ok she was starting ok upto the point were we installed a new starter motor today. She started 3 times to test the stater motor which made a big difference from the old one slow cranking to fast cranking. After this she no longer started.

We think it might be the fuel line pressure it seems low we pushed on the release valve and it just leaked out I would expect a good squirt of fuel in my face.

She's cranking like there is not spark or compression and there is the smell of fuel from flodding.

    Any ideas guys

If you tried 3 times in quick sucession on a cold engine, the odds are it is very flooded.
Leave it a while , or if you are impatient take out the plugs and heat them with a gas soldering iron. Put your foot flat to the floor without pumping and start her again.

I don't have a gas soldering iron and ain't that risky with fuel

Yes it was cold started so I will see about the rest tomorrow and see if she kicks over.

But there is still the issue of a possible low pressure fuel line.

Ok she's now running again she was flooded but the spark plugs must have been on there way out anyway as there totaly fouled and just crappy looking almost like the were the original plugs from when the car was new ? .

With the fuel the pressure is a little low from the testing that was done and it has been put down to the filters the fuel filter and the gauze filter on the pump so once they are replaced the pressure will be normal again and running alot better I may as well do the works like leads rotor cap & button should make a big difference after all that has been replaced.

I don't know how you are starting it, but with mine I don't touch any of the pedals at all.

Just turn on the ignition , listen for when the fuel pump cuts out and then crank over. It should start within a few seconds without touching anything else.

If it is the fuel pump on the way out there is a thread here somewhere about converting a Commodore (I think) fuel pump to work in it as they are a lot cheaper.

There is nothing wrong with the fuel pump but the filter on the fuel pump a gauze filter is packing up and needs to be replaced plus the fuel line filter must be very old as well so the fuel flow has been restricted once replaced it will be back to normal.

I have only brought this land rover disco a few months ago and have barley driven it due to the fact it needed a new steering box, brakes and i needed to track down a tow bar to start towing rubbish away on my property plus the stater motor packed it in a few weeks ago and was only replaced on wednesday and because the mechanic started the engine 3 or 4 times to test the starter ended up flooding the engine which also brought up another problem the spark plugs were very old and falling to bits explaining my idle issue I had.

And to answer your question on how I start my land rover I start it like any other fuel injected car just turn the key no pedal action at all if you have to use the pedal then that will indicate a problem straight off for anyone.
