Thread: Seeking info and advice on the series one Disco

I own and cherish my series 2A which is my daily driver and love of my life, however, we have 4 little boys and not enough seats for the little tykes in my wife's little BMW. There enter the problem. (She drives when I'm enjoying life).

As she finds it impossible to steer the 2A let alone push the brake peddle no matter how much I tried to convince her another baby series Landy was defiantly out. So the next best option is a 7 seater Disco which funny enough she is quite excited by.

Hopefully this is where you guys come in, the old girl I can strip and assebmble blindfolded which is not (yet) the case for the Discovery so I need help. I t appears that from underneath there isn't a fluid that is not leaking from one point or another. Normal?

The one we are looking at is a 98 petrol which has has done 88,000ks and with the exception of the a sagging roof lining the body and interior is verging on excellant, however, there is some required repairs such as, (from memory):
a. The vally seals need replacing (are we talking inlet manifold?),
b. The crank seal needs replacing'
c. weeping / leaking power steering fluid (looks like a loose clamp to me)
d. A frame bushes need replacing (remember I drive a leafy), and other small stuff that I will get from my diary tomorrow at work.

any general info on petrol / diesel different models as opposed to others, is $10,500 excessive and any other info you Disco guys can spare would be great to fantastic. (will probably get it on gas). Are any of the above repairs Disco nightmares? any ideas on costs?

The car drives great, looks great, low km's, owned by a fanatic (although mech inept) and I would love any feed back.

Hopefully soon we will have 2 x Landys in the driveway and i will be spending some time in the discovery section.

Not much I can add to the above, except to comment that the price does seem rather high for a V8 not on gas, even with the low mileage. These days, in the used car market, "V8" is a dirty word!

I would check that there are no signs of water leakage, which can result in rust, particularly in the rear load area and around the alpine windows.

I can't comment on the engine leaks, but the A-frame bushes are not very difficult to do - probably need a press same as the leaf spring bushes, but a bit bigger. If the A-frame bushes need doing, then the rest probably do too, unless they have been done.
