    Concealed winch

    Has anybody succeeded in fitting a winch behind the standard Discovery bumper?

    After a bit of web trawling I found some mounts that apparently accomodate this but would be interested in seeing if and how other members may have accomplished this

    Having never needed a winch to recover (yet) I'm not sure how far up the priority list one would be. Even then a portable electric winch gives more options of recovery from different angles (more temporary mounts are requires I know).............or just don't get stuck!!

    Both are for D2's and look real smick!

    I have a D1, and think you could do a similar discrete mount on it as well.

    Have never had a Disco however I did make a winch mount for a RRc that fitted between the chassis dumb irons and below the transmission coolers etc and was independant of the bar, except for a small cut out for the top of the fairlead and hinging of the number plate. In fact it was so well concealed that even people on moderate-hard 4WD trips didn't realise it was fitted until I used it to recover another car.

    Wouldn't know about portable electric winches. I do however have a Tirfor - it will work forwards and backwards and sideways and after rollovers and when you have a flat battery and even work when you have hydraulic'ed your engine.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
