I've just bought a 98 D1 TDi, it's pretty stock and hasn't advertised as having anything but a stock tank. So, what size would it be?
I am flying down from Darwin to pick it up to drive back, so I need to start figuring out km's and fill up points.
Also the front bumper looks as though it is a stock pressed steel with plastic over, would this be correct? I would like to mount spotties for the trip back that's all.
I'll post a pic of the new addition soon. This now makes the household LR only with my D90 and now the wifes Disco
Cheers

600km should se you safe
89L Tank, I used to get Gove to Katherine (730km) on a tank if I stuck around 80kph.
Front bar looks standard, but is missing the plastic side bits. Easiest way to mount spots would be a cheap light bar until you get a better bar fitted.

It says 89L in the specs.
In my manual it states the tank is 89L but the most I have managed to get in was 78L after driving with the warning light on for 50km. Out of the 78L I managed to travel 950km sitting on 100km/hr and always get this sort of comsumption at 100km/hr. You should easily be able to travel 600km without needing a fill up.
Cheers for all the responses guys, looking foward to the road trip.
So is the middle section of the bumper steel with a plastic overlay or is it just plastic?

This model has an 89 litre tank. The warning light is supposed to come on with 9 litres left in the tank.
On a trip I regularly get 700klm. The most I have done is 800klm with the fuel light for over 100klm. Really @#$# my self, sure we weren't going to make the next fuel stop. Only put 79 litres in when I did fill it up.
I would love to really find out how far I could go but to worried about the floaties in the bottom of the tank.
Mate used to regularly get over 800klm out of his.
