I keep saying "why not" to gas for all oz cars,,
but apparently the infrastructure is not capable,,
we didnt have roads or trains either at one stage--
or electricity, or data cables, or----
so if we have so much gas,,
why do we import it?
imagine a country that is IMMUNE to OPEC,, or the american winter, or the hundred other causes that make oil prices increase,,
The infrastructure that they are referring to is the legislation to enable then to collect the same amount of revenue via taxes on lpg as petrol :wasntme:e
95 D1 V8 Auto on LPG - open loop LPG. Gets 350k per 70 litres with my wife's lead foot short school runs.
My 02 D2 Manual on LPG - closed loop but not injected LPG just conventional mixer. Gets 300k from 54 litres. In an out to town from burbs in Brissy - all stop start roads with plenty of lights.
My D2 on petrol in the above conditions regularly did 15.5 litres/100k. Dont know about the D1 because it always runs on LPG and its MAF is stuffed do it defaults to rich running on petrol.

PS. I dont get any noticable power loss with LPG and in fact low end torque is higher - makes for better general driving. The only power loss is right up high - say over 4000 rpm and it aint much.
it would appear(IMHO) that from what everyone is saying that the LPG or petrol argument is almost equal. All being said i'd still prefer my 3.9 fuelled by petrol. Although at times when out to play i will fill up with premium ULP,stuff the cost. It feels better, under my right foot, also sounds better. What do you reckon?
If you fill with pulp, it will take a bit to feel difference from my experience, also the high comp motors I had seemed to like it more, so you may have one of those.
I found that on gas, my D1 almost exactly halves the running costs in terms of fuel anyway.
I run petrol from time to time to keep injectors and everything working.
I feel only a slight loss in power if any.
With the current gov bonus, I had mine installed with a 2nd hand tank(s) and new electrics, it cost me just on $150 including a tank of gas and my fitter always puts in special gas plugs and leads.
Paid for itself in 3 weeks.
Way to go I say.

A quick reply to earlier post, Gas is still a by-product in the petroleom production, sold very cheaply offshore and also imported.
Not sure why we do both but we do.
The LPG from the local servo is not ment for use on BBQ but I use it at times and a few of my friends do use it for home heating when they fill their big bottles at the servo via a adaptor.
I also have syphoned some out of my tank and used it for my portable BBQ.
It works, while it may not be perfect or meant to, its what happens.
Also LPG emits much fewer pollutants than a standard or especially an older model diesel.
That is a fact, gas is the most un-economical in terms of L/KM but cause its cheap and cleanish, we should be encouraged to use it.
Can't wait for natural gas to be available for us to plug in at home and fill her up while we sleep.
Natural gas is there in abundance here in OZ, for at least 500 years.
it appears naturally as the name suggests.
Conversion not yet available readily but when they are, I will get one for sure.

Personally i would never run a LPG car. EVER. There are to many risks associated with it. I find it funny how its not recommended to carry a 9kg bottle of LPG in your car but its ok to have a 90 litre tank in there? I remember doing my advanced first aid course and we were told that if we ever came across an accident and there were flames to first check the number plate for the lpg sticker. If the car had one the advice was to stay away till the fire brigade arrived to turn the tank off. Apparently the ambulance and police service are told the same thing. On that fact alone i would not put my family at that risk of not getting first aid in the event of an accident just to save a few bucks in running costs!
I can understand that if your running a big car constantly in city peak hour traffic you may save a few bucks by running on lpg, but if i were running a big car constatly in the city in peak hour id have to ask myself why am i running a big 4wd to sit in traffic when i could be running a smaller much more economical car?
The only place i can understand lpg fueled vehicles is in forklifts. Since forklifts almost always run indoors and lpg has no harmfull emmisions (that we know of yet) like petrol, or LPG camping lanterns. I dont even like lpg bbq's as the food tastes so much better cooked with timber! lol................

A 9kg lpg cylinder is usually unsecured, a car lpg cylinder is secured and in the event of an accident its the petrol tank that springs a leak before a lpg cylinder, they are way more solidly made.
Also, never catch a cab again, it may get involved in a car accident and explode like in the movies or rescue workers may leave you till the emergency workers secure something while you lay in pain.

Here in OZ we refine petrol and LPG is a by product.
I use it and am proud to do so.
Its relatively cheap, safe and food taste great cooked by it.
Cooked with Timber? What the? Who cooks on timber, perhaps as a smoker additive, chargrill yes but timber. Surely you are mistaken. i owned several restaurants and still own a bar, cook on timber-
