The first Diesel Disco to have cruise was the Disco2 released in 99.

Another few notes: the LS discovery was a late release from the UK to Australia to rid the remaing stock of V8 mid spec models for the release of the D2.
They were badged LS for Limited Spec. You will notice as the ES had Electric seats also the LS did not. The wood spec was bolted on in Australian processing centres as was the LS decal. The only thing that came from the factory was the stereo with dash controls...
All 98my vehicles should of been badged at the rear S, SE, SE7 or LS.
97my & prior there were many changes & limited spec models.
Most came under the main 5 level specs, most were aimed at the SE, SE7 spec to move vehicles as bonuses were added to shift them along.
    S, SE, SE7, RS, ES.
SE/SE7 AA pack, SE/SE7 AR pack, SE Plus as been mentioned, it just depended on what spec the customer wanted.
These packs were mainly 96/97my's only.
The Rossingnol was only the early D1 up to 93my (early dash).

These levels still exist today as the UK has many different trim levels, from memory up to about 12 now, were as Australia only receives 3
D2a & D3 - S SE & HSE, are basically the spec we get, in the UK u can order a base vehicle & option leather trim with seat heaters, something we cant do here...

Hope this helps in some way guys.
And just to add some more discussion.
MyTdi is a 98my, there is no decal on the rear, be it S, SE, SE, SE7 etc..
BTW, I bought it new, so I know the decal has not been removed and I know it's an SE.

Oh no, no cruise on a D1 diesel - that's a bummer! I love cruise control.

Does anyone know what happened when you bought a D1 new from a dealer and wanted options added to it? Did the dealer call the UK and order a car with the specs you wanted if they didn't have one on the lot?

My 96 D1 has no markings on the rear and quite a spec list.

What happened if you bought a D1 diesel new and said to the dealer: I want cruise control. Surely they didn't say, no sorry can't do that. Would you have got an after market cruise fitted by the dealer or a factory one sent over from the UK and fitted?

There's a few aftermarket options around. We used to have aftermarket cruise controls fitted to new cars. I couldn't say for sure if a Tdi was done though but it would be easy enough.

You might find that cruise control won't work too well with the Tdi as you often need a fair bit of pedal to get them going up hills. Cruise control will not usually go to full throttle.

    Quite right, on both....

My Tdi has "autron" aftermarket CC fitted and I have to help get it up the hill.

    Aftermarket Cruise,

We had a Rostra Electronic Cruise control system on ours. Had the dealer put a V8 steering wheel with buttons put on, and put the factory switch in. Looked completely factory.

Being a manual, ours was OK on the Hume and long flat roads, but really struggled on the hills. You could change the response time on ours so it wouldn't hit the floor quickly.

I have only driven D1 V8's, is there a huge difference in power and take off between the V8 and diesel?

If you have a manual diesel is it still sluggish or can you keep up with the traffic easily?

UK cruise is an option we didnt have (at all), the Diesel in the UK drives by a wire & an ECU similar to the TD5 for the 300Tdi.
Aftermarket cruise are the way to go. My Father in law has one on his manual TDi & it is great, it does keep the speed except for steep hills it can lose its way. But has had no problems.

I didn't think those local SE7 type decals carried over to the 'WA' Discos.
