Have you had a look inside the tank?
some of the "floats" dont,,,
I've had my d1 for 3 years and the fuel gauge has never worked properly. The emergency light is always on, except when it gets to the 33lt remaining it goes off and reads correct? for a few minutes then back to normal.
With a long w/e here i am looking for couple of pointers to how i may be able fix this annoying problem.
Cheers

Thanx, Pedro. Will wait till i empty the tank tomorrow and pull the bugger apart. I started to have a go at it a few months back, lifted the carpet and got a real shock... rust everywhere. Oh well there goes the bull bar i was going to buy. $800 later it looks like new, with new window rubbers all round to stop the water getting in. Do you reckon i should have a smoke while i have a go. Ex knob end bro in law did. poof up in smoke. literally.
yep, some D1 floors have a rust problem,,
dont think its the alpine windows that cause the rust though,,
they have their own problem
smoke all you want,, I'm WAAAAAY over here---![]()

No need to empty the tank. Just pull up the carpet, remove the cover, remove the fuel lines and remove the pump.
Before you even pull the pump though, check the plug. There will be four wires. Power and earth for the pump and two sensor wires. Short out the two sensor wires and see if the gauge reads over full.
Also while you have the access panel off, just check the tank for signs of wear.
When I replaced my fuel pump I noticed on the top of the tank where the screws were rubbing which hold the access panel on, they had used self tappers and they were slowly self tapping into my fuel tank.
