D1 fan-hub locking tool.
Can anyone give me some tips what the locking/holding tool should look like, so that I can undo the viscous hub from the water pump?
I have made the spanner for the fan part, but some advice on how to stop the other end turning would be appreciated,
Cheers Charlie

I got away without the holding tool - just using the spanner, by leaving the belt tensioned and giving it a quick tap with a hammer in the undo direction.
Biggest thing is to undo it in the right direction. Mine is a 300Tdi and is left hand thread, but Rave manual says the V8 is RH thread.
Best bit of advice I found was to undo in the same direction that the fan normally rotates. Saves having to work out the LH/RH thread thing.

I had a similiar dilemma with mine once and couldn't get the dammed thing off for the life of me. Wasn't just me though, I had a few other blokes have a go at it to.
I know the local Lr mechanic pretty well so I went down there to get them to apply there special tools to undo it for me.
The special tools are the right sized spanner (not a shifter) and a decent sized hammer. A couple of good hits and it came loose.

I tried the hammer trick and it worked beautifully!
Have to wait for a warm day on a big hill to see if it makes any difference now. The old one did have an oil mist on it as if it had been leaking, but it wasn't much easier to turn than the new one.
Thanks for the advice everyone,
Cheers Charlie
