Continued Squeal with left movement of steering wheel
Hi All,
Strange title I know,
I have a 1993 D1 TDI, 120000kms. When driving I can hear a squeal when I move the steering wheel to the left. It isnt overly loud, I can only hear it when I have the windows down ( i know keep them up and dont worry).
It happens with all left movement of the wheels whether it is slight adjustment of line or full turn. It is more noticable at higher speeds.
I greased the front and rear tail shafts and topped up the oil in the oil fed bearings.
The bearings aren't getting overtly hot, after 500km trip similar to the temp of a warm cup of coffee.
Left hand front bearing slightly hotter than right side.
I appreciate any advice.
Cheers
Kieren

Plenty it could be,
Power steering aeration but that would more than likely be both sides,
Serpentine belt slipping but also should be both sides,
Maybe sticking brake caliper....
Outer wheelbearing may be dry, maybe pop the drive flange off and check the oil is working it's way through to the bearings.
Does it do it under brakes or not.
hope that helps

Check your disc pads for wear. Just the extra loading of a left turn can cause the pads to contact the disc

Squeal
I have a Disco 98 petrol. It does the same thing. Drives me nuts. I cannot find any movement by shaking the wheel when jacked up. I took the pads out recently and smeared silicone on the back, didn't help. I would love to loose the squeal....

Your not running Ferrodo 4X4 pads are you?
I had a set and they constantly sqeeled so Ive pulled them out and fitted Bendix pads again.
No more squeel.
