I was at a clearing sale on the weekend that had a 1997 (MY 96) SE7, V8 (3.9) auto with 298000kms for sale. No plates and no RWC - buy as is.
The only oil leak I could notice was at the back of the motor and that itself did not look too bad. The only service record I could see was the widscreen sticker that said service due at 231,000kms.
The only good tyre was the spare which was a brand new Cooper STT, I doubt the tyres on it would have past RWC. The windscreen had a couple of cracks in it, it only had 5 seats, looked like the dog lived on the back seat, and oil had been spilled on it. The cargo area looked like it had at least a litre of oil spilled in the back. On both the drivers side and passenger side front and rear doors had wide white scuff marks down them (it was green in color). The Drivers side rear bumper had a dent in it - nothing to worry about. The headliner was starting to come loose as well.
I did not notice any rust in the body.
The only bonus was it had an ARB bullbar and Koni suspension (15,000km old).
They had to boost it when they started it, but it did not blow any smoke and sounded to be in good running order.
The question is what would your max bid be?
I will let you know what it sold for later today.

$2000 max, providing the white scuff marks will polish out (no paint/panel work needed).

Opening bid was $3000, and it went up from there.
That's ridiculous
Scouse is bang on the money.
Even d2 V8's are going for 4 figures now.
D1 V8's are going for stuff all, even decent ones.
There was a two door 95 model I looked at last week, went for $2,500.
Awesome nick, ran out of rego last week, straight, good paint, v. tidy interior, 2 in lift, good rubber (ATs), mechanically great, 200,000ks.
Was going to post it here, but it went the day after I saw it.
That's basically a summary of a clearing sale. People pay top dollar for absolute rubbish, almost as if they have no idea of the price of things.
I've seen a quad bike auctioned to $3,250. What a pity for the winning bidder that it wasn't for sale [a mistake on the auctioneer's behalf] as I had bought it for $500 the night before.
