And one more thing, I apparently have a reasonably rare Disco - one that doesn't leak oil.....!

Have secured bias plate and springs (grand total of $30) - so hopefully the gear issue will be resolved shortly

lol - I am sure one will develop soon enough..!

Gear issue fixed - bias plate was broken.

The job was not that difficult really - but more time was spent trying to get to the bias plate than was spent replacing the thing itself.

Still, for $29 I am happy to have the gear lever where it is meant to be.

I had owned my Discovery for a couple months when the gear box seemed to become a scramble of gears half way around one of Newcastle's busiest roundabouts ...but quick thinking was to simply roll onto the roundabout for every tom dick and larry driving to work to see me...

Than after trying to fix the problem and giving up i decided to lock the car and walk to the shops do what needed doing then returned to see the same people driving past yet on their way home ...finnally under the cover of dark i found second and stayed in this gear for the long 20K drive home which included a run along a 90kph link road for most of that then an 80 and 70 zone saw me home...

Well turned out the center plate had cracked and the center spring had given up...but makes for a memory to be shared and my new gearbox runs as smooth as well just brilliant!
