Purchase Query for a TDi Disco

    G'day Guys,

Being a Defender man - l am not too well verse on the old Disco's - have a mate looking to come on board. So:
    1994 TDi 242,000kms Man
    New clutch/ Flywheel done also.
No towing, off road. City based only. $6,900

Seems to be on the money to me?

What is there to look for in that model/year??
    Ta,

    Hi Mike,

Sounds like a good price if it's in good nic.

    I have a 92 200 Tdi - Man.

I paid 7,500 for about 240K's and the wholesaler fixed the clutch no charge. I have done about 30K+ in 6 months. Excellent car. Mine's done a bit of work so if his has not... check it out I say.

I took mine to a well respected Land Rover specialist on the Sunshine Coast, paid for the full works no holes barred inspection. Very good condition. Got a compression test as it seems to blow a little white smoke, especially downhill engine breaking. Came up like new.

I would watch for electricals under the hood, perished over time. I have replaced a relay for the glow plug (it had filled with water despite silicon on top. Second wiring of starter motor too close to manifold, it broke from heat and being modified and too short.

Small electricals from age..... Otherwise check it out I say. I cannot see myself selling mine ever....

    Good luck..

    Jay

As long as it is all working well it is worth it. I'd be getting it checked out though by a L.R. specialist. It may save a lot of money in the near future.

Just what I was going to ask.
If it's the update model seems like a fair price
    - does it come will full maintenance history ?
If you can find out when the timing belt was last done and what modifications kits for the timing cover and pulleys have been fitted.
Worth taking it to a LR expert nearby for a look over - maybe Rovercare on this site can help - I think he's down your way ?

    Thanks for that guys.

Not sure whether it is LA or MA? Do both have centre diff lock? How will l know - the VIN i assume? Which is preferable? Are there any 'real' world changes/upgrades?

I have owned a 1999 TD5 Disco - so l know of the prbs they can have in terms of electricals etc.

It DOES have full service history with reciepts etc.
I can then check it for when and what was put in.
