Running 33s you will definitely need to cut the guards. Deoending on the condition of the RR, that's not too bad a price, the diff centres between the two are different though (RR 10 spline, Disco 24 spline) so you can't just swap them over.

Have a look at suspensionstuff.com.au for very well priced suspension options. Up to 2" is safe as houses for the vehicle. BFG A/Ts do chop up a bit and are no good in the mud. I used to run a set in 225/75. 31" (or thereabouts) tyres are a good size without overgearing, remember you only have a small motor pushing around the weight of the vehicle.

I wouldn't be going 33's unless you can afford to do a diff reduction too. I find them bad enough with the diff reduction I don't know how I'd cope with standard. This is manual though. My Disco has a 4inch lift and the guards are cut up so high that if you took and more you'd be in the vehicle. And I wouldn't want to go bigger then 33's with mine so a 2inch with cut guards would rub in the harder stuff I reckon.

Anyway, they cost more as a tyre and create more wear and tear and as things break as a student can you afford to fix them?

It sounds to me like your trying to do to much on a budget.

yeah wouldn't go 33's . I have 32's and i have lost a bit of power through them . Don't notice it in low range tho but is a killer on the highway if it's hilly or your into a strong head on wind . stick around the 31's and you'll be fine and happy .

Thank all of you very much! unfortunately yes i am a poor student but i am a very optimistic one so i may be setting out to do more then i can handle but i like a slight challenge.

From all of your replys so far it looks like a set of 31"/10.5" would be the way to go with a two inch lift to prevent the tyres from rubbing on the guards will they also clear the inner guard at full lock in the front end?. As for the locker from the RR the issue of the 10 spline is no drama as the Disco runs a 24 standard yes?

With me just running the 31" tyres from what iv read i shouldn't put too much stress on the motor or lose too much of my gearing, as for economy who is running 31" tyres with a 2inch lift, and what kind of economy are you getting?

Other then that i was planning on putting some under body protection on the rig, but that later days.

Cheers guys keep the pointers comin!

Yeah after looking at the prices i feel much better you guys say you can get a kit on eBay for around $600 but iv failed to find that, but on suspension stuff iv found a good kit for $720, and he said he can arrange to have it installed locally , and iv had great reviews from all you guys saying he is good to work with. Only thing iv failed to find is a steering dampener and anything above 2" for the disco...im not planning on going higher but it was just something i noticed and you say you picked up 3" flexxies.

nope, different a locker set up for use with 10 spline axles is only compatible with 10 spline axle as i understand it.

if you had a 10 spline axle disco (PRE 93 I THINK) you might opt for a 24 spline locker and upgrade the axles from 10 to 24 spline to match as thy are a 'little' bit stronger but no point in backward engineering a 24 spline set up to 10 spline to make a second hand locker fit, doubtful that anything would fit up at the other end either.

happy to be corrected if i'm wrong but that is my understanding
