personally i'd spring lift the disco 2 inches or so body lift 2 1/2 inchs, cut the guards add flares, chuck lockers in front and rear with 4.11:1 cwp's upgrade the axles and cv's to maxi's or similar, increase the downward travel of the suspension set up, get the wheels negativly offset chuck some 33's on in a mud or very capable AT tread for day to day driving and touring, buy a second set of wheels and put 35 trekkers on for playing, fit a winch and swap the wire out for synthetic rope and an appropriate hawse fairlead. stick another battery in and run power to the back for 12 volt accesorries like a mounted compressor and also to an inverter for 240 volt output.
then go out and try to break stuff
well thats what i'd do anywaylol

2" lift as has been said then 245/75r16 tyres(MUD) and trim the gaurds you will be fine.A great start to 4x4ing.
If you grab the rangie you can swap the diff & axles over and run the 33" if for just offroad they will be fine but you will need to lift the body or chop heaps of gaurd out. The 33's will sap a heap of power though.
And the locker may get you further but when you get stuck you will be stuck.
Your choice but just buy the stuff you need as it is easy to get carried away and as Dirtdawg & Joel have said they are very capable in standard form.Hope this helps

Only thing iv failed to find is a steering dampener and anything above 2" for the disco...im not planning on going higher but it was just something i noticed and you say you picked up 3" flexxies.
I couldn't find any springs for a disco over 2'' either for a while until i heard that shane from suspension stuff sells 3" flexy coils, he has only sold them to a few people because he is still testing them and is after feedback from whoever buys them.

nope, different a locker set up for use with 10 spline axles is only compatible with 10 spline axle as i understand it.

if you had a 10 spline axle disco (PRE 93 I THINK) you might opt for a 24 spline locker and upgrade the axles from 10 to 24 spline to match as thy are a 'little' bit stronger but no point in backward engineering a 24 spline set up to 10 spline to make a second hand locker fit, doubtful that anything would fit up at the other end either.

happy to be corrected if i'm wrong but that is my understanding
I ran a 10 spline RR in the rear of my 98 (24) Disco for 3 months,
Diff center fitted, axles fitted, in side the 98 axle house, just had to drill out the bolt hole on the end caps.
