    Kaymar rear bar/tow hitch

    Hi All,

After some help regarding my tow hitch. I have a Kaymar rear bar fitted to my D1, the hitch when fitted normally ( tow ball tongue at the lowest point) is too low. Fitting it the opposite way around means the tow ball sits too highand I cannot open the rear door more than 5 inches when ther camper trailer is on. Quite a pain when you have forgotten to load something into the back after hitching the trailer on. Standard ball hitch on the trailer. Offroad Lifestyle brand camper trailer running 31" tyres.

The main problem with the Kaymar rear bars is that the hitch slot in the rear bar is not horizontal. I got an engineering works to bend the hitch

I have tried Kaymar but they have been less then helpful. Tried fitting a Haymen Reece brand adjustable but that doesnt have enough adjustment. I have a toyota branded hitch that will suffice after I get the enineering works to reduce the angle but the hitch sticks out approx 6 inches due to the location of the holes.

    1. Does anyone have any other ideas other than putting a 2" lift on the D1

    2. Is there a safety/legal factor regarding how far the hitch sticks out from the vehicle.

Any ideas'thoughts would be a great help.

    Cheers

    Kieren

    Tow ball height

Hi there.... Hope this helps. You should be able to purchase a raised tow ball... They come in 1" and 2" raised heights... I've seen them at tow bar installers and trailer manufacturers.. If you have problem sourcing them I can get them here in Melbourne.

I fitted a Kaymar to my D1 back 8 or 9 years ago when I had it. The bar had an angled receiver for the tow hitch, but the hitch (supplied with it) was also angled to match so it didn't stick out abnormally. Door opened no problems I remember. Looking at the pictures you have the tow hitch inverted, do you need it that high?

I had the hitch inverted so I can getthe jockey wheel down on the camper. It is too high when it is inverted. I might turn it back around and try and source a higher towball.

    Thanks
