Well, as I said I'll be picking this thing up on Friday (yes, from Grays), and driving it back home (Canberra) from Homebush.

Should give me a bit of an idea of what it's like in a mix of city and country (freeway) driving.

Clearly, a "major" service is on the cards (depending on what's been done to it and when - it supposedly has some kind of service history). Given that there was this one and a V8 auto as the only two vehicles in that particular auction, I suspect that they were both owned by the same company. Hopefully they were diligent in the servicing! Either way, I'll be looking to do oil and filter/s, possibly plugs, probably the Serpentine belt, and obviously will have the cooling system checked out.

After that, extractors (if they can be had cheap), and a cat-back system, probably followed by a lie-down.

Thanks for the replies; Seems like a quite "chatty" forum. Which is good to know, given that I'll probably need your assistance soon.

BTW, are there many other ACT/Q'Beyan members hanging 'round here?

Buying cars in that manner is a bit of a lottery, but you can often end up with a bargain.

My last "bargain" has cost almost as much as the purchase price in fixes, but that is 1 poor experience balanced up with 3 or 4 excellent experiences.

Enjoy your drive back to Canberra

Looks like quite a tidy example, expect that things will play up (it is a 13 year old Land Rover), but this forum is great and will have a solution to problems it might have.

looks sweet would be more impressed if it was a diesel but then i love the rattle under the bonnet more than the roar lol!
give yourself the treat of a major service and go from there, it looks tidy but,and they do make for a good day to day drive enjoy and welcome

    Go Grays

The LR V8 is no speed machine, but it is a nice comfortable cruiser and reasonable economy can be had on the highway.

A gas injection gas system is a very good investment. I stuck one on my 94 ES 12 months ago.

Unless you nessesarily want noise I wouldn't bother about doing anything to the exhaust until things need replacing. The differences IMO are not great and you might need to service the car in other area's.

enjoy and if you have a problem and have a bit of patience and are handy with the spanners many of the problems you will be able to fix yourself. Just ask

I have never heard of a ES manual in australia before, has anyone else? Mabe it has had a conversion, or a special order from england.

There's not too many around but yes, factory. We've had a few go through here but 99% would be autos.

I bought a 95 ES V8 only a few weeks ago.Great car to drive with all the luxuries.Only has 170,000 km on it and purrs like a you know what . The very next day after i bought it i noticed a pool of coolant under the car. This was my face after i saw it.I thought what have i done? After having a quick look under the bonnet i noticed a small hose that connected to the plenum was swollen and every time i revved the engine it would leak water.Turned out the hose had a little split in it and under pressure would squirt coolant out.I bought another one for $10 and fitted it up.No problems since.Hope you have plenty of fun with it.I know i will.
