The subs should have their own amplifier. Is there wiring from a sub output on the back of the head unit to wherever you want to install them? I did this myself.
Hey guys I'm looking at buying the boot mounted subs from another discovery and putting them in mine. My Discovery is a 1998 D1 without the subs as standard and the subs are coming from a 1997 D1, i i know the trim will fit but i was curious as to will the subs already have wiring or will i need to get this done professionally, also id they have a amplifier already in the unit?
Any information would be grand! also what price should i be looking at the trim is in good nick and the speakers themselves seem to be just a few dents on the mesh covering. Or are you guys aware of cheaper or similar priced yet better sound options?
Cheers, James.

how about doing it this way
then you can have two 8" subs![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Cheers for the pics Dullbird, i would like to do it that way but i have the seats in the boot and i want to try keep it as a seven seater thats why i was interested in the boot door mount as iv seen people with a single 12inch sub mounted with modified trim.
Any word on what the standard subs with trim in decent order would be worth?
Cheers, James.
Maybe $50-150 or so?
Are you just getting the subs or the whole door trim?
Can you connect it to your head unit?
Grover,
you need to check if your headunit has its own built in amp or not. The units that ran subs usually had a satelite amp for each channel including the subs, this meant that the signal being run out of the headunit was a low level signal, as opposed to an amplified signal coming from a standard head unit. If this is the case then you prob won't be hooking the subs up to an amplified headunit.
For $150 I reckon u could get a decent basic aftermarket headunit, which if not now, would allow u to do something better later on. Even if u don't do something like the twin 8" setup in the seat bays, twin 8's in a box doesnt take much space, and has the advantage of being removable.
Dullbird, that is an extremely well executed setup. Very nicely done.

Yeah, agree. I chucked my original head unit and put a reasonable one in. The Landy sub has its own amplifier. So I now have 6 speakers off the replacement head unit. However I'm dissatisfied with the original Landy sub and thinking about chucking it and doing something better. Subs with amps are not that expensive.
This is my setup, its also a 7 seater, all I need to do is unplug 3 leads. The anderson plug for power, the remote lead for the radio (you can see it just behind the anderson plug) & the RCA's. Easy.
