    replacing idler bearing

    Hi I am in the process of doing my head gasket and while the head is off do some other jobs the main fan belt idler bearing is noisy this is the one the fan screws onto, I have a bearing to go in but has anyone done this job before and what tips do you have?? thanks will be attacking it tomorrow

    Would this be on a TD5?

    One recommendation I have had is to put the bearing in the freezer the night before, and run the engine till it's warm. That way the bearing slides in without much force.

    Also Check the viscous fan coupling, if there is any play in the bearing then I bet that is the cause of the idler bearing failure.
