There's an easy cheap fix guys. Had exactly the same issue and did what I always do for all my D1 parts.

Go to eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace and pick up a second hand replacement unit. Easy enough to fit. Pop off the logo from the steering wheel, undo the one nut. Be careful not to smack yourself in the head when pulling off the steering wheel.

Then a couple of screws and two plugs later you are cooking with gas. Re-assemble and enjoy.

Total cost inc shipping was around $40.

    Good luck with it.

    Regards

    Martin

Hmmm,Wouldn't there be a STRONG possibility that a second hand one will be exactly the same as the one in the car? If not now , in 6 months.

Or is the pom climate soooo benign that they never fail? or maybe its all those roundabouts that no one in pommyland indicates on.

Seeing they all seem to fail, I reckon a new one is the go.
But then the originals only last 15 years.

You are probably right Phil but for $40 I'll take the risk. I can always order another in a year or so if necessary.

    Hey everyone

    Fix was REALLY easy.

Pop off steering wheel and replace the self cancelling actuator on the rear of the steering wheel (non airbag)

15 minute job (including bringing tools out from the shed) and part was $57.00 from Sutton Motors here in Alice

That even left me with time to wash and wax the Disco (waxing over the "bush marked paintwork means you care!!!)

    Cheer

My non airbag MY95 Disco doesn't self cancel but only on the one side. It used to be both sides so I pulled the steering wheel off one day and found that the plastic things that the cancelling thing hits were broken off.
I glued them back on and it worked for a bit but one must have come off as it only self cancels on one side now.
