I have had a 300TDi manual Disco for over 11 years. I now tow a pop top caravan after towing a Jayco camper van for 19 years. Yes they are slow to take off. You will have to use low range to take off on a hill. Otherwise it is just great. Last year a trip to WA returned a fuel useage of 10.36 Lt/100Km
    while pulling the camper.

I agree I just bought a 98 disco 3 weeks ago, the day I got it I took off on a 2,300 km trip from Wollongong to Lightning Ridge and back. The disco went really well got 10.5 km per litre. They are a bit slow on take off but you get used to it.

I also have a 95 ES v8 its great on take off but she sucks the juice big time, only gets around 420 k's to a tank around town and 550 on a run without a trailler.

    530k 300tdi disco

    Hi
My disco 300tdi has done over 530k, still on the same engine,& drive train & wheel bearings. Why you may ask. Keep it well serviced with somebody that knows his way around them.

    Cheers Bob

i have disagree about the 300tdi being slow and sluggish, and im coming from driving a 4L wrangler, when i first bought the disco it was slow and sluggish but ive had it about a month now and just like any good disco it gets up and boogies on the dancefloor,

For sure Jeep_Boy... even without tweaking the pump, they get up and go pretty well once you've learnt to sink the boot in on taking off. Tweaking just takes it to a new level again.
