Please help- 93 disco handbrake
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone could help me with the correct way to adjust the handbrake on my 1993 disco as it is sticking and making the car vibrate when slowing down. Any help would be very much appreciated

If you look under the car at the transfer case you will see the handbrake drum on the back of it. On the front edge of this there is a hex head that you turn to adjust the handbrake.
So chock the wheels and release the handbrake and put it in neutral. Loosen the adjuster while rocking the drum back and forth until you can feel it no longer grabs.
You could also remove the drum and make sure it is clean and the pads are in the correct position and undamaged etc.
To adjust the handbrake lever the adjustment is done inside the cabin but you have to remove the centre console from around the lever to get at it.
I think the manual says adjust the lever til 3 clicks gives full brake.

I have just spent all afternoon struggling with this. Now its dark and I can't figure out which is the "correct way round" for the pads. Cleaned it all up and put it all back together (expander piston sticking) and when I put the drum back on the pads are binding.
I have backed off the adjuster; taken it all apart again (hot ouch) am now hoping someone can tell me what way round the pads need to be/what I'm doing wrong... !!

Finally sorted last night - tip: if its a b***d to get the drum back on then the expander is not fitted properly! In the end I took the expander off, cleaned it all and sat down in the living room to work out how to put it together. Held everything in place with a rubber band and put it all back. Drum slots on easily and now just have to adjust the handbrake properly. 93lrdisco do you still need help?
