    Wading Depth???

All this rain has been good for one thing the road to my place is flooded about 2 ft, i was wondering if that is a safe depth for a Discovery 1 with a Snorkel, and a 3" Lift all up including added hight from tyres

I don't have diff breathers or transfer breathers or a bra for the front of the car.

It is a tar base so i thought it would be a good place to practice getting the speed right to maintain a bow wave. Any advice on speed? should i use 2nd Low range?

I have only ever waded through creeks up to the bottom of my bull bar so this is a little deeper
    Thank you for any advice!

    Not sure

I put my D1 2" to 3" over the wipers in the off position on 3 occasions. Makes you wonder what a goldfish sees. I had a snorkel and on 2 of the times I did it I wasn't in a position to tarp the bonnet. Wasn't an issue, slow and steady.

Did you have any problems with the fan hitting the radiator? or did you loosen off the belt? Also is it true the Alternator can handle clean water just not muddy water? Due to the brushes?

The alternator's higher up than the starter motor. Both don't like mud. Clean water certainly isn't a big issue.

You are best of tarping the front (or removing the fan) if you go through water up to the bonnet as a rule. However the D1's fan sites a reasonable distance back from the radiator, unlike the D2. If you loosen of the belt then you'll have a few problems as it drives everything except the air-con in the D1.

The main thing to remember when driving through water is slow and steady. You want to push a wave in front of the vehicle and not let it break over the front of the vehicle. Also anything up to the top of the wheel arches isn't even worth worry about as long as it's done sensibly.

Another concern is obviously water entering the cab, how well sealed is the Discovery? the rubber under the drivers door is worn from entering and exiting the vehicle. But I'm guessing as long as you keep moving it should be ok?

You've got it! As long as you keep moving you are generally OK. I would also fill in the 2 slots in the bottom rubbers with some butyl mastic. The D1 floor isn't too bad to dry out (don't ask, I just know from experience) as its actually foam underlay and some hard sound deadening material so you can lift it up, squeeze most of it out and air dry reasonably quickly.

I'm not too sure how its possible to loosen an automatically tensioned belt. I suppose it either needs to come off altogether which would be rather risky on a 300Tdi without coolant circulation or remove the fan.

Yes, in for the wet season, out for the dry season (and put in the centre cubby of the Defender). Used to do the same with my D1.
