    steel rim offset

Hi there fellow disco nuts . I'm new to all this and this may be a daft question but here it goes . I have a 96 s1 discovery 3.9 on gas & am nuts over it , i'd like to put some 31x10.5 15 tyres on it as i have a set of mickey thompson mtz's sitting around , if any what offset should i get on my new rim's ? The disco has a 2 inch lift so i think i'll be ok for guard clearance . Any tip's or advice would be appreciated cheers

I can't tell you what you should have with that combo but the standard rims have 33mm offset (stamped on the rim).

You should be able to get away with standard offset sunraisier type rims with 31/10.5/15,s

yep! the standard run of the mill 15x7 sunnie will have the perfect offset for them tyres!
they are what i had with my old 31 10r 15 mongrels, BUT be ware they will widen the track past the ''legal'' limits... it wont look out of place and will suit the disco fine but just be ware of the track issue

    cheers phil

If the Sunraysias have the same 7" width as the standard rims but they change the track, then that means the offset is incorrect and, in fact, greater.

It follows then, that the Sunraysias could be illegal, especially if they have increased the track by more than 25mm.

From what I've seen the 15in rims available off the shelf will increase the track. I guess if you order them in you can ask for whatever you want though.
In Qld you can widen the track by 50mm front and rear as we have solid axles front and rear.

As for a 2in lift giving you plenty of guard clearance I can assure you that you won't.
245/75R16 on the standard rims will require a small trim but if you widen the track you will have to trim more as the tyre will no longer be able to tuck up into the guard.

I have the 245/75R16 on standard steel wheels and have done the trim but still catch the RHS tyre on the guard. I have one bent trailing arm which I think is causing the problem.

The trim is just the rear of the rear wheel arches. Nothing major.

Ah. I didn't realise that off-road vehicles with beam axles were allowed 50mm increase in track. That's good. Thanks for that info.

I wonder if it's the same in NSW. Quite probably.

problem is the off the shelf sunnies add closer to 80mm to the track! this i dont see as a problem mechanically, as the disco has big beefy wheel bearings. the added stability of the offset is a deffinate bonus and so is the return of steering lock!

Yep some 15x7" sunnies will do the trick just fine
We had a set on the disco for a while (31/10.5/15" cooper stt's)
All we had to do was give the rear guard a slight trim, no problems up front
    Here's a pic...

    CHEERS TIM.
