Have you tried taking the petrol pipe off the carby and spinning the motor over? Dont know much about Disco V8's but that clears my 57 Series one carby after a long stint in storage.

it probabley never ran out of fuel in the first place, or if it did doing so has caused the in tank fuel pump to run dry which has bought about

    1. blowing of the fuel pump fuse
    2. arcing of the fuel pump relay contacts
    3. burning out of the fuel pump itself
    4. the fuel filter to block.

grab some carby/brake clean/areostart/startyabastard, drop the trunk off of the aircleaner spray a little in the intake and see if it tries to run on that.
