    2" Lift Disco 1

    Hi!
Have been reading various threads about giving a Disco 1 a 2" lift, and there are various comments about jobs that need to be done, in addition to just fitting the new suspension parts.
I was hoping that those in the know could list all the mods that need to be done, and possibly those that aren't needed but a groovy just the same.
I have most of the parts needed to lift mine, Shane from Suspension Stuff is still waiting on the remaining shocks.
So speak-up, let your knowledge and experience inspire others.
    Thanks.
    Glenn

All you need is 4 springs.

Four better/longer shocks would be good.
Also a 4 bolt rear driveshaft and flange is also a good idea.

all you need for a 2 inch lift on a D1 is 4 coils and 4 shocks. There is no need for anything else like adj panhard rods, spacers or the like.

should only take a few hours to do with the right tools.

what shocks did you get from Shane?

    Hi

Shane knows the good stuff! 29.5 inch rear, 27.5 inch frt procmp shocks and 2 inch dobinson coils. If you want you can also make rear dislocation cones to really get some flex (after removing sway bar)

    WOW - 29.5 rears

Basically the springs are what gives you height, but the shock length gives you travel (downwards) for more flex. You dont need both at the same time, you can first buy the springs and put them on, and if your not happy with the flex then buy some rear shocks only. Front longer shocks wont make too much difference as you still have the sway bar on that restricts travel.

Seeing you already have the shocks and springs under control the only thing i would do if i was you would be upgrade your rear shaft to a 4 bolt and you will need to get a flange kit as well

If you want more information just PM me and i can send you a load of information as i am doing the shaft on my Discovery this weekend

Grover, are you talking about replacing the flex coupling on the rear shaft with a uni type conversion?

Nah I think the extra posts gave it a warm fuzzy feeling

I am replacing my 3 bolt shaft with the 4 bolt as the rubber donut is ruined, you just need the 4 bolt shaft and then the flange kitif you don't the rubber donut will be ruined very quickly! too change it over isn't too expensive well i am getting mine done for not much over $200 and it will save me a lot of dramas in the future as the rubber donuts cost $100 and they would constantly need replacing.
