One sec and i shall find my haynes book
G'day to all, my disco 1 came with the radio pulled out and I'm now trying to install another radio/cd. Problem is,no wiring diagram for the disco wires. The wires I have are Black
" with white trace
" " blue "
" " orange "
" " pink?? "
" " brown "
" " green "
Red " black "
Plain black
The white with orange trace and white with purple trace seem to be the two power wires[ continous and ign power]. Could someone please let me know which wires are for what. Thanking all . Bob

Okay here we go
Black
" with white trace - RH/F speaker
" " blue " - RH/R speaker
" " orange " - LH/R speaker
" " pink?? " - LH/F speaker
" " brown " - RH/F speaker
" " green " - RH/R speaker
Red " black " - Main Lighting switch
Plain black - Earth
Umm just checked those wires and White with Orange trace is Ign and Purple with White should be power
Thanks mate, radio now working. Bob
Sweet as. Didnt get it wrong after all![]()
Thanks for the info in this thread, very helpful. One question though. What is the "main lighting switch"? Is that part of the radio or does that refer to the lights in the car?
FWIW, During my quest to solve my radio rewiring woes I came across the following tip which may be of some help to someone one day.
If you are preparing to hook up speaker wires and you are not sure which is negative and which is positive or which wires go to which speaker, take a 9-volt battery and touch the speaker wires to the the battery. One of the speakers will move. If the speaker moves forward (or out), then you have touched the positive lead of the speaker to the positive terminal of the battery. If the speaker moves back (or in) then the wire touching the positive terminal of the battery is the negative speaker wire.
Cheers, David.

It all sounded nice and easy but in reality it was like waiting for the Y2K bug - nothing happened. AA or 12V. Oh well back to the drawing board.
I have sound on right side but still trying to work out all the wires for the left side.
I think I read somewhere that some of the speakers share certain wires but buggered if I know which ones
