    Removal Steering wheel??

    Hi to all, just sold my RRC and got my Disco 1 2 door on the road. Stupid of me, but I broke the wiper arm so hence the question, how does one remove the steering wheel to acess the wiperswitch and is it a hard job, what to be carefull off, in the process? Also, does anyone in the north side of brissie have 2" coils forthefront they wish to sell or exchange for 2" raised coils to suit RRC?????????? Thanks

    Remove the centre badge in the steering wheel. I think it will prise out.

    Loosen (but don't remove) the retaining nut in the centre.

    Thump the wheel vigourously with the palms of your hands on opposite sides a few times.

    Grasp the wheel firmly and pull hard. Hopefully it will come free.

    Now remove the centre nut all the way and remove the steering wheel.

    As far as the coils go, they RRC ones will fit a Disco and vice versa.

    If that doesnt work, I have a steering wheel puller with bolts to suit a rrc so should suit a disco, unless the holes are a different size. Let me know if you need it and I can try to find it. I am at Margate so you could pick it up or I can drop it off if I am up that way.

    Remove centre, undo nut and remove spring waher and now rplace nut so it is level with the top of the steering shaft. Now pull back on the wheel and give a hit on the nut with a hammer (brass faced hammer is prefeed). Some steering wheels are held on the nyloc nuts, if this is the case put the nut back on upside down so the nyloc section isnt damaged

    Dont do this! I've seen a few collapsed steering shafts from doing this...

    IMHO it is best to use a steering wheel puller from the start.
    You can make one easily with 2 metric bolts and a bit of flat strip.
    drill 2 holes in the flat strip in the correct spacing for the holes in the wheel, tighten up the bolts, Voila!!

    Thanks John and others. I wasnt sure that I could take the emblem out of the centre of the s/wheel. I have a puller already so Ill go that way. As for the front springs on the silver bulet disco they are only about half the height of the RRC springs so thats why I had doubts that they would fit the disco.
