I thought that another reason to go for a tdi is $$$. Dont think the D2 can match the running costs of the D1 (given the issues and price of D2).
Dont think I could bring myself to taking a beaut d2 bush either.
Well having owned both first a Tdi Defender and now a Td5 Defender id say its a Td5 for the choice for me , There is no argument as far as im concerned ,I feel the Td5 is better on fuel a lot more powerfull quiter than the rattly Tdi
In short drive both and i bet you go for a Td5 hands down![]()

thanks heaps hey. been busy lately so havent managed to get off my ass and have a test drive. guess ill just have to shop around and drive a few see how they are. Cheers
having had both the 300TDI & the TD5, it's a no brainer if you have the readies. Has to be td5 and then post 2001 model. Massive difference in grunt!!!....and quality. D1's didn't do much for LR reputationally.
300 tdi, get a diff lock in the back and as I just found out it just keeps climbing and grabbing and clawing up hills and paths.
Very economical.
I am getting intercooler and pump tweak done wednesday and let you know the difference, it does run out of steam at the moment when towing trailer and people on board.
This is my 1st oil burner apart from wifes Golf and I am sold on it.
i have driven 2 TD5's but decided to save the money for a holiday instead.
