300 TDI Oil Breather hose
In my never ending search to locate the source of my oil leaks, I came across the oil brether hose at the top of the head ( well thanks to my trusty RAVE CD thats what I discovered it was).
There does seems to be a oil around the top of the hose and having tightened the hose it still seems to be collecting, so I may have a split in it.
Whilst I was doing a search on breather hoses the other night I was sure I came across a thread that included a recomendation to unscrew your oil filler cap at idle and it should just sit there and perhaps just gently lift up to release pressure with no smoke. Well naturally I tried it and mine is blowing whitish smoke and the lid looks more like a violently boiling kettle jumping around.
So should I be worried and if so what should I do about it?

While I am no expert it sounds like blowby. Compression leaking past the rings, could be like that for many klms or just give up the ghost any time. If it were me I would be looking at freshening the motor at least, but I could be wrong.
