    Exclamation Sway Bar

    My Discovery is due for rego this tuesday but to be safe i am planning on getting the pink slip as soon as possible. Whilst driveing today my right hand blinker started mucking up and my tailight blew...(how do cars know when to do this stuff!!!???)

    Ok but other then that i only have one thing which needs fixing and that is my rear sway bar. (Now before you reply with remove it i am not interested in doing this just yet as i am on my P's!) Ok so i have purchased new bushes for the sway bar but the but i am in need of a new or second hand bolt and nut to hold these in place...

    I would take a photo but i am currently with out a camera! So i will try explain which one it is...


    On the right hand side on the axle there is a joint which comes down off the axle and then the sway bar is connected to that via bushes and a bolt.


    So if anyone would be able to tell me what size and type of bolt i should be buying or if you are local and have one spare from when you removed your sway bar i would love to take it off your hands

    From memory, it is a shoulder bolt. I can check in the morning.

    You could make the equivalent by putting a sleeve of appropriate size over a normal bolt.

    Yes it is a special bolt with a shoulder for the nut to be tightened against.

    This is important as the rigidity of the whole shebang depends on the compression of the bush. One of the reasons I decided quick disconnects are very difficult on a Rangie/Disco.

    The ones in the front are the same and the links are the same, so just pull one out and have a look.

    Where would i get this bolt from?

    I went to all 4x4 at Kotara they claimed to not have any...i thought this was odd but i dislike them as it is.

    They said a bolt from bunnings would do the trick but from previous posts this sounds incorrect?

    If a simple bunnings bolt will do what size should i get?

    The threaded end of the bolt fits through the eye in the end of the swaybar. The shoulder butts against one side of the bar and then the nut is tightened hard up on the other side , making the bolt rigid.

    The pair of rubber bushes (same as top rear shockie rubbers) fit on the body section of the bolt, between the hexagon bolt head and the side of the sway bar.

    The rigidity does not depend on the compression of the bushes, but upon the connection between the bolt and swaybar.
