    new engine for disco

    hey guys.

Just trying to help my brother out with his landrover ( im a patrol owner ! ) he has a 94 model tdi 300, auto ( i think thats the engine 2.5 diesel?) and he was driving to the gold coast when the engine overheated. Anyway, took it to the workshop, blown headgasket ( like a lot of other posts i have read on here looking for an answer) melted piston and posssible turbo ( whats would cause the turbo to **** itself) as you say, he is up around the magical 280 000 km mark. Long story short ( yeah right!! ) he has been quoted about $6500 to rebuild his current engine with a new head, but that doesnt include the turbo if its dead... He only paid $2000 for it...

Seems pretty steep, can anyone recommend from experience, what the best option is from here and at what cost. or should he scrap it and get a patrol... he is in brisbane.

    Thanks for any help!

    Agree with Pedro.

$2000 is not much for anything, especially a Tdi, so probably wasn't in very good condition to begin with and surely now it's not worth saving anyway.

Even a second hand engine will cost thousands, and then the trouble of fitting it, just not worth the hassle for a $2000 start.

Find another cheapy and run it til it dies.
