disco 1 v8 vs cape york

ok thinking about doing this trip next year with the boys so my question is would you take a disco 1 v8 on gas up to the cape and if you were going to what and or how would you set it up, the question covers everything from equipment to the spares you would carry and there would only be a driver and 1 passenger in the car

I did the cape in a 4 Dr Rangie on Gas, No problems at all!
    You main problems will be
    * fuel range, make sure its running on gas and Petrol well and use your gas for range !
    * Air Intake, Snorkel if possible, and do some test runs witch include river crossing at various depths, When I had the 3.9 in my Disco it was pretty good with water, but make sure you carry Silicone spray and CRC ! and give it all a good dose before entering the water !, maybe a blind would be a wise move.
    * And if you do get stuck in the water make sure your windows are down, have seen a Disco get stuck and then as the water reached glove box height the vehicle central locking locked its self with him on the outside
    * I would carry a good range of spares as well, Belts, hoses, Rubber tail shaft doughnut & fuel pump as well as your other normal range of emergency repair bits!
    * and above all make sure your Tyres and shocks are in good condition !

    Cheers

I ran my V8 Auto and only needed the jerry near top but its good to have more then not enough as one vehicle traveling with us kept borrowing our spare fuel and if the weather would have turned we could have used more also.(did not have gass fitted so can not advise).
I did not have a snorkal and my air claner noticed this and had to be claned Plus tarp for water crossings. ref attached Photos.
Long Dusty Road with water crossings along way.

Had new Tyres but still had flats (one tyre non repairable)

Water crossing No snorkal but tarp fitted.

    Another Water crossing

    Tight fit on barge

As previous post have advised take spares and ensure your suspension is in realy good condition, A snorkal would be a good investment but it can be done without with precations but i have had snorkals fitted since and enjoy its a great trip.
