    auto box questions

    new to dicovery landrover
    1998 d1 3.9 v8 auto
    151000kms
    when shift auto to reverse it goes clunk
    from rev to n smooth
    from nutral to drive small clunk
    How much noise would i expect?
    how much to fix if wrong?
    what may cause this?

    normal ish....

    even the new ones do it, its just cumulative wear in the driveline.

    check for excessive play in things like the Uj's and motion of the pinions on the diffs and the tcase outputs. IF they dont have lateral movement then its all good.

    Agree with Dave, the clunking is pretty normal from park to reverse, but it WILL be worse if the engine idle speed is up there...


    just be thankful you don't have a BW viscous transfer case, these are far worse...
