From what I know there are two types of sunroofs in the D1: the twin sunroofs of the ES model and a single front sunroof that can be in any model.

The twin ones are smaller than the single one and have two sun shades that pull over to cover the sunroof.

The single sunroof was an option in any model, and is larger with a single hard cover that can be pulled over to stop the sun. I know these ones are Hollandia sunroofs as it says it on the cover.

I've read that the twin sunroofs have a drain that can become blocked and cause leaks and rust. So if you have twin sunroof, check the drain for blockages.

I had a single one in a previous D1 and could not find any drain in that one. I don't think the single one has a drain and mine never leaked.

No matter which type you have, get on a ladder occasionally and check out the rubber seal on the roof for signs of cracking. If necssary, rub a bit of silicone sealant over the rubber seal.

My 1995 Disco has the twin sunroofs (which I am very happy for). I can honestly say these are one of the few parts on the vehicle that never have given any trouble in all those years (have the car since 1996). The Disco has leaks aplenty but bever from the sunroofs (and it can rain a lot around here), and they always open and close as they should. Luckily they are manually operated, so I can forget about faulty motors, switches and that kind of crap.

    Cheers

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

The single ones, I think, are all electric; mine was anyway. Never had any problem, electrical or water leaks in the time I had it.

What a luxury item, one touch opening and closing, and hold it down and it tilts. Even shuts when you remote lock the car!

Shame my current Disco doesn't have one.

I had twin in my ES model.
When off roading or driving on rough roads, get them closed so you don't stress any hinges etc.

I now have a single sunroof model and no probs either.

Twins in my '95, manual operation. The rear shades have the hooks broken off them, the front is as new.
I think the rear one leaks as I occasionally get a wet rear floor, and oncae had a wet roof lining. That was some serious rain though. Also have some rust in one alpine window. This may be due to the leaking sunroof.
Didn't know about the drains, perhaps I'll check that.

I have twin electric sun roofs in mine. The rear one leaks a bit, but only if the disco is pointing downhill. Park up hill and it wont be a problem. It doesn't have to be much of a hill, the spot where I park mine you would call flat just looking at it, but the disco can tell....

The rangie I had before this had an aftermarket sunroof and was exactly the same. (had to park it up hill)

How do you clean out the drain holes?
