D1 swap to leather (Electric) seats

    Hi all

Before I begin sourcing seats and things I was wondering if anybody has done a swap from cloth manual seats to leather electric ones?
If so can you let me know if there are any pitfalls in the procedure?

Do they use the same base?
Is the loom wired for the power to the seats? (I assume so, every other extra I've fitted i've found the wiring in place)
Are the seats lower than the manual ones? (can you see under the top of the windscreen easier?)
    Any other pointers

    Any info would be helpful
    Cheers
    Jason

Do they have to be electric as well as leather?

I'm not sure but do you have the factory wiring harness under the seat waiting for the plug in electric seat or will you need to do some fancy wiring?

If it is just the leather you are after you may find it easier to find manual leather seats. This may be a better option as you will avoid any electrical issues that may arise.

I think the electric leather seats came in around 96 or 97.

I have leather/electric seats in my D1..the squab is tilt adjustable..how tall are you ho har is 6'3" and he has no probs seeing out the window...maybe they are lower...the back is adjustable like all seats and there is the lumber support as well....the base appears to be the same as a Range Rover base... it has the CD stacker under the drivers and just a hidy hole under the passenger....perfect for a snatch strap or first aid kit

as my sig says built '96 compliance '97

    Swapping seats

    Hi there,
before you go pulling out seats make sure the seat base is the same, as the earlier D1s have a different base. From late '95 on the seat base is different .I swapped my seats out of my '95 D1 for leather seats from a wrecked '96 D1 but the seat bases were very different. The later D1 s have a raised section built into the actual floor pan whereas the earlier ones have just a flat foorpan.I managed to fit the leather seats though with a fair bit of welding & some lengths of flat steel. The earlier D1 s have narrower seats aswell as bases. If there is a raised section at the rear of where the seat frame bolts on then it will be the same but if the floor has no raised box section at the rear then you need to weld up some frame as I did. Jon.

    Mrs Ho Har

Thats good news, at 6'3" myself I am hoping the electric seats may be a smidge lower than the ones I have

    JonPP:

as the earlier D1s have a different base
My discos a '99 so hopefully the bases etc will slot in with not too much difficulty

    Cheers
