How far over your scheduled service are you? A thousand km or so isnt bad as long as your fluids are topped up.

Ok well i have ordered everything that i need for my major service and i'm also going to be putting a 2"lift and polly airs when it comes later on in the week. Also waiting for my snorkle to be made by a very top bloke (You know who you are) so my disco is coming along finaly.
Just wish this weather would hold up a little as i live in a unit with no garage!!!!!I'm hoping to get everything done before the Otways trip No2. Thing is i dont know if i should do the major before or after the trip????
What do YOU think???? lol
cheers simon

I would wait until after the trip and give her a freshen up.

Hi Simon,
Are you doing the trans filter as well, or just the oil?
Here's a few of the best tips that I've learnt from this forum that are relevant to what you are doing:
1. Check if you have the crappy plastic bungs in the thermostat housing and the top of the radiator. If you have, make sure you replace them with brass ones (or at least new plastic ones if you cant get hold of brass). The plastic ones get brittle and crack/blow out after a few years.
2. A good tip for draining the radiator is to get some 6mm clear plastic tubing and insert into the header tank and as far down the bottom hose as you can. That way you can siphon it out most of the coolant easily without making a big mess.
3. Get some Permatex #3 sealant to put on the pipes/housings before you put the hoses on. Helps to make sure they seal nicely, prevents corrosion on alloy housings and also makes the hoses easier to get off again if you ever need to.
4. If you are actually taking the radiator out you will need the 2 O-rings for where the engine oil cooler pipes go into the radiator. You can get them from any bearing place. Get Viton ones 7/16"ID, 9/16"OD, section 1/16". Pretty sure I've got a couple of spares here if you get stuck.
If you've got any sign of a leaking "P" gasket (between water pump housing and block) then its definitely worthwhile doing that as well while you've got good access.

Hi Simon . Mate if you have the time on a weekend before the Otways trip . Bring your disco down and we can do the lift here if you want . Plenty of tools here and a nice big car port![]()
