I remember reading somewhere that Tdi's should'nt need the glow plugs at all to start in general Australian conditions. I guess they (glow plugs cables) are very easy to get at and dis-connect to see if they are actually making any difference.
Once again i need some advice for my 95 Disco 300tdi.
This morning, about to take the little one for his 6months needle i tried to start my truck but with no luck. i had to crank her over three time's, with every crank going for about 10sec but with no fire up. Final she kicked over and never had the problem again this afternoon when she was hot.
Now i'm thinking it could be the glow plugs OR something to do with the fuel pump or lifter i dont know????
Is there any way to check those things???? once i start her and drive it until normal op temp everything is fine, just in the mornings she struggles.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ever cleaned out the fuel sedimentor?
Fuel filter needs changing?
Air leak on fuel lines,
Check elbows on to of fuel sender for corrosion/perforation
Check for air leak on filter bleed screw
Check condition of injector bleed pipes for air leaks or just replace
Next could be fuel pump faulty, may not be upto job and injector pump is doing the pumping
You shouldn't need to worry about glow plugs, 300tdi's should start easily without using them at all
Hope this gives you a start ( no pun intended )
Forget about the glow plugs, even in winter a 300TDi should start fine without them.
Your problem is more than likely to do with the fuel supply. Clean what you can, check the pipes & see what you can find.

my problem ended up being the starter....in these condtions the car would take a couple of turns to urn over. since changing the starter in the same cold/damp conditions I dont even get to finish the turn of the key and the car has alsready fired.
I'm still yet to test whether it has cured my long journey stopping and not starting again problem that I was having....but i'm guessing it probably has

Even though the Tdi really needs no glowing, they still need to crank over at a good speed. As DB has found the starter replacement helped, but also firstly check the earthing to the engine, run an extra earth cable from the battery directly to the engine block, and then try it.
My other standard response to Tdi cold starting issues is timing. Even a few degrees retarded will prevent cold starts, glow plugs or not. When was the last timing belt done?

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Good point... Forgot the crank speed/earth.
Mine was an earth problem and a buggered battery . But mine still won't start on a cold morning without glowing it first ... doesn't need glowing for the rest of the day tho .
thought mine was an earthing probem...changed earth strap live strap and everything...even changed the relay to the glow plug as was also suggested that this can hang up not allowing the circuit to complete.
the car slowly got worse and worse....to the point where it wasn't just starting in the cold but starting it when it was hot
after all that ended up being the starter
