    SPANNER SIZE????

    I took my calipers off on the Weekend, use a double hex socket.
    As for the Fan, When I've done mine, I used a thin plumbing adjustable spanner and a lenght of pipe over the handle for extra length and leverage, I also used a Flat Shanked big Screw driver to wdge against the pulley bolts to to them turning whilst I cracked the fan nut.
    It worked for the last 3 jobs ok. But a thin correct sized spanner would be best. Sorry I don't know size

    size = 32mm

    I doubt you'll get a normal spanner in there , you need a Viscous Fan Spanner, from memory $26 from Auto-One

    Edit: Just invest in RAVE CD from Dave ( Incisor )

    G`day , depends what fan hub is on ?

    If it 32 mm it`s probably left hand thread .

    If it`s 36mm it`s probably right hand .

    Caliper as said are probably ordinary double hex .

    Cheers

    For the 300Tdi the Ford viscous fan hub spanner works the best.

    You can either buy a twelve point socket set,or just the 9/16-14mm for the brakes. You'll need the 1/2 inch socket if you ever change disc rotors.

    For the swivels, a normal twelve point socket won't fit because of the curve of swivel. A sidchrome ring spanner will stand up to undoing them, but for torquing them up you'll need to figure something else ( torque wrench extension if you can find it, or grind off the end of the ring spanner and use a pipe for leverage, or shallow socket)

    ps, you do not split the halves of the calipers - just pop out the pistons and clean up the passages.

    If your handy with a grinder and can mark out the size of the cut out and chop accurately you can make up your own fan hub spanners from 3mm plate i did a few in stainless they work a treat and didnt take much to fab up
    As for the sockets any good brand sockets should be the 12 point double hex jobs most ring spanners are the same 12 point double hex also probaly worth investing in a good set cause you will need it to keep your rover in one peice

    Are you referring to the twelve point bolts that hold the swivel/hub/brake/axle assembly onto the diff housing? If so you need normal 12 point sockets, not those crappy six point hex head sockets, which are totally useless unless you are using them with an impact wrench, Regards Frank.

    Don't ask the same question in two different areas of the forum. I've merged the two threads (and replies) into this single thread.
