    Brake pads for D1.

    '95 Facelift v8i

Opinions on good brake pads for front & rear. ie. normal use, not too hard nor too soft.

Who makes the Genuine Parts pads, anyone know?

    Thanks

(they are really really good with postage too, i got mine like within 12 hours of ordering them)

G'day, I had to do my rears on Fraser Island last year. I ordered them from Land Vehicle Spares, only two days wait.
I actually left the island before they arrived and had arranged to pick them up in Gympie. Aust post was about 5 hrs late for me so I ended up getting them from REPCO and rerouting the others home to NSW.
I'm pretty sure they were less than $44 for the pair, I'd have to chase the receipt down to be sure.
Changed them in the REPCO carpark with a full load in and on the vehicle
I can't believe how many people stopped for a chat.

Thanks both. Do you recall the brand names?

I now gather Genuine Parts pads were Mintex.

    Bendix ok?

I got sick of paying $70-$80 at the local brake "specialist" half the time he gave me the wrong size pads. No apology when you have to put the Disco back together and drive back to get the correct ones.

I replaced front and back in the last 12 months. I now use Ebay $18 plus $9 frieght. Work fine. I buy all my D1 parts from either ebay locally or ebay in the uk.

    Regards

Genuine pads are now TRW AFAIR.
I have a set on my RRC now and one thing they do NOT do is squeal. A lot of cheaper pads have the reputation for squealing on RRC and Disco and this can set off the ABS failure light on ABS cars. So be aware.
They are about $100 FR and 80 rr.
They tend to fade however when I do hard stops with the 650KG camper on.

However I have bought a set of EBC Ultimax from CLR on this forum at $100FR and $80RR. according to the blurb they are mother's milk.
    Time will tell.
I do not have them yet and I will report after I fit them.

Bit of a waste of money if you ask me - spending $180 on brake pads... My $44 dollar ones are fine, they don't squeal at all and the car stops quite fine...and i have navigated down plenty of steep hills with no problems at all, they are hardly worth spending that much on.

How many ks do you get from a set of pads? maybe 20-30KK?
How long does that take? say 1-2 years?
How much extra per week is that?
For the fronts 100 Vs 44= maybe 50cents to $1 per week.

And that will seem very cheap if the Bendix start squealing when a bit worn, and maybe do not last as long as the more expensive pads, or are harder on the discs.

Do you use Kmart Oil? same argument.

Whether its only 50c to a dollar a day extra or 5c extra, its still extra, and i dont think that the pad quality its going to make that much of a great difference to how it wears the disc, i mean sure it may be some, but really its hardly going to be enough to make any difference. So really is there any need for spending extra money when you don't need to? I don't see why, to me its like buying big name brands over home brands in the super market, hardly any difference, people just like to "think" that its better, when its not, they are just wasting their money. same with alot of other things you buy.
