I don't get why you need to change your front of cabin arrangement from stock.

Why not run the uhf direct to the auxiliary battery (that was recomended to me) and not worry about upgrading your cig lighter socket - after all the sorts of bits you're putting in there will probably not be big power users, and tend to be the sorts of things you use when underway in any case? Just a thought...

Thanks for your replies. I like the idea of an aux fuse box for front and back.

The UHF cb already runs on the main circuit for power, but like all accessories (not including the CD Player) to run on aux power so that I can keep the UHF on when not driving.

uhf CB ...to run on aux power so that I can keep the UHF on when not driving.
I guess that's why I thought it was worth suggesting the direct connection to the aux battery rather than connecting the unit in somewhere under the dash. Most uhf units have an in-line fuse, so that's no issue right from the start.

Yes, thats right, I agree with you, hence why I want to set it up like that (now running off main battery)

That way there's no need to go with the previous suggestions about an auxiliary fuse box for up front either.

    Cheers

The question of which Aux battery comes up in here quite often , and my answer everytime is these Haze (chineses Gel batteries). I fitted an N55 equivalent battery , 85 Amp/h over 5 years ago to my D1 and still going well.

Stooge- have a look at my install posted here
My Dual Battery install with Traxide SC80
If you scroll down to pic number 6 you will see a 30 amp Circuit breaker, you could run another cable via by attaching another wired with lug on the Aux side of the CB and run the wire to another fuse box in the front cabin, then if you wanted you could attach anther fuse bus at the cargo area end too. That way there is no need to cut into the supply cables any more than necessary.

I have attached some photos (I hope??) of my set up!

I have a '93 V8 disco and from my 2nd battery in the engine bay, I ran 2 B&S cable through the firewall (fused), (there are two grommeted holes on the left hand side of my Disco), under the door edge trim, front and back doors, and up to a marine switchboard mounted on my cargo barrier (bought on Ebay from Sidewinder electronics). It's a large diameter cable, but I went for safety and current draw than convienence

I run a fridge, inverter, compresor and 2nd high power UHF radio from the switchboard and all runs well. (Each switch on the switchboard has it's own fuse). The switchboard already has the correct connector for the above items, so no messy wireing in the car. Just battery to switchboard, then, each item to the switchboard.

I also run a winch off the 2nd battery (some may disagree), that's why it's a high cranking amp battery not a deep cycle.

I did have to move my power steering resiviour, but it was not anything major.

The dual battery side is all controlled by Redarc controller / isolator.

    I hope this helps, George.

Where and how did you relocate your ps reservoir. I need to do mine as I need to fit a bigger battery in that spot.

Have seen a couple of different set ups from other users.

A close up pic would help
